Ready To Lift completes double for Ryan
Amanda Hawke
Saturday, 25 October 2008
Gerald Ryan completed a training double when his smart mare
Ready To Lift booked herself a trip to Melbourne after claiming the Sydney Pet
& Animal Show 7-9 Handicap (2000m) at Rosehill today.
Ready To Lift copped a tough run when after settling midfield on
the rails, she was kept in a pocket by Hugh Bowman aboard Juerga before being
held up at the top of the straight.
She saw daylight 250 metres from home and showed her class by
sprinting away with a hard-fought win from Juerga and Luvuleo in
third.
Ready To Lift’s victory was the second of the day for Ryan,
whose training effort took out the second event with promising three-year-old
Ahdashim.
“There’s a nice 2000m mares race at Flemington for her
on Emirates Stakes Day,” Ryan said.
The mare had strong formlines coming into today’s race with a
second over the trip at Rosehill on October 11 behind the Gai Waterhouse-trained
Faulconbridge, who made it five consecutive wins.
The placings and margins: Ready To Lift 54.5kg ($2.70) (G.
Schofield) defeated Juerga 54kg ($5.50) (J. Bowman) by a length with Luvuleo
56.5kg ($18) (P. Wells (a)) a further neck away in third.
The time and sectionals:
The overall time for the race was 2.04.13 secs and the final 600 metres was run
in 36.11 secs.
Winner’s breeding: A
five-year-old mare by More Than Ready (USA) x On The Rize (NZ) (Crested Wave
(USA))
What they said: “It
really was a good win, she toughed it out and followed up on her last run well,”
winning jockey Glyn Schofield said after the
victory.

Classy veteran makes his return at Canterbury
Amanda Hawke
Monday, 20 October 2008
Well-performed stakes winner Flaming is an eye-catching entrant in the Freeway Hotel Bistro Welter Handicap (1200m) at Canterbury on Wednesday with trainer Gerald Ryan reporting his return to the track is long overdue. The unassuming midweek welter has attracted a number of stakes-performed gallopers, including nine-year-old Ramornie winner For Valour resuming off a long spell, but former Gai Waterhouse-trained galloper Flaming's last five starts are a conspicuous class above. The Beautiful Crown gelding was runner-up at his last start in the Scone Cup behind Spy Zaim in May 2007, having previously won the Civic Stakes ahead of Bobadah and Beauty Watch and notably finishing less than two and a half lengths away in the Doncaster behind Haradasun and Mentality.“He was ready to come back after E.I but hurt a suspensory ligament after a trial, so the owners decided to put him up for sale,” Ryan said.“Darby Racing already had a share in him, so they bought him outright and rehabilitated him.“He looks good. He's only lightly raced for a seven-year-old and he's a big, strong horse.“So he did have a prep and trial before he came to me, and he hasn't actually been out of work for 18 months.”With a 63.5kg burden in Wednesday's event, the veteran will be a clear topweight from Mr Ubiqutious, who carries 56.5kg after Daniel Ganderton's 3kg claim.Heavyweight hoop Brad Stewart continues his association with Flaming after partnering the gelding at two quiet lead-up trials at Rosehill.
“The 63.5kg is hefty, but his form warrants it. The trouble is he's hard to place,” Ryan lamented.
“We were going to shy away from racing him on Wednesday but he needs a run to toughen him up and for us to gauge where he'll go next. He's going well enough - I'm quite happy with him.”Ahdashim full of autum promise according to Ryan

Wednesday, 15 October 2008
Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan is quietly confident his promising youngster Ahdashim has a big autumn ahead of him after claiming his second successive win in the Bass Hill NMW Handicap (1100m) at Warwick Farm today.
Jeff Lloyd aboard Ahdashim settled well back in the field, swinging widest rounding the corner and powering home to claim the well-backed Back on Top with Just Hilda finishing third.
After his gelding saluted with a solid win, Ryan's calm demeanour belied the confidence of someone who knows they're onto a good thing.
“He's a nice horse and he's better than a midweek race,” Ryan said.
“On his pedigree you wouldn't say he'd win a race over 900m or 1100m, he's bred for 1800m but he's always shown ability.
“We'll give him one more run and probably put him away for the autumn, there'll be a good race for him then.
“This one will be able to step up through the grades pretty easily from what he's shown us.”
The placings and margins: Ahdashim 56.5kg ($4.20) (J. Lloyd) defeated Back On Top 58kg ($2.25) (T. Jones) by a head with Just Hilda 53.5kg ($5) (P. Robl) a further two and a quarter lengths away in third.
The time and sectionals: The overall time for the race was 1.05.30 secs and they ran the final 600 metres in 34.72 secs.
Winner's breeding: A three-year-old gelding by Elusive City (USA) x Clinique (NZ) (Dancefloor (USA)).
What they said: “He's a nice horse, he's not that quick out of the barriers so without that early speed we just took the sit,” winning jockey Jeff Lloyd said after the victory.
